Self-Direction

Every day I can’t wake up without giving thanks. If I told you where I was six months ago you might not believe I’d have this mindset today. Let’s just say I was in a hopeless state of constant anxiety and depression, sprinkled with a few poor life choices.

My continual self-direction was a key factor in achieving better mental health. It’s unbelievable how impactful the word’s we speak of and to ourselves can be. Beginning my day’s with “I love myself and the man I am becoming” is what truly began my upswing. Expanding on my positive self-talk also expanded on my happiness. Adding directions like “I am deserving of love” and “I can do anything I set my mind to” include the benefits of improving my relationships and drive towards the future.

One might find me a little over the top. But, when I’m alone at home, I even find myself repeating my directions in song. This adds emotion and sinks the beliefs a little deeper into my core being. Making sure that I truly hear the words and believe them are all up to my subconscious. However, the more I repeat them, the more they sink in. Whenever I find the opportunity to do so, (basically when I’m alone, considering I don’t want to be one of “the crazy’s”) then I do. At least 5 times out loud as passionately as possible (aiming for 3 times a day).

Being my own person and having no clue about the depth of your being and what directions would truly impact you. I suggest you take your own ideas of good self-directions for a spin. Maybe trying an array of different affirmations or even giving the one’s stated above a go. Either way, it’s an honor that you took your time out of your day to read this far.

Believing that true happiness is somewhat subjective, I still have a firm belief that it will only come from within. Someone else’s kind words might give us that little jolt that we all enjoy. But at the end of the day, it’s what we believe in our own hearts that will have the final say.

Coming from the depths of severely poor mental health that I came from. The depths of which too many of us have experienced. Especially nowadays. I’m on my own mission to lend my hand to help anyone out of that hole if they are willing. Through goal setting and achievement, continual self-talk, and a little self-reflection. I know we can improve on today and the future to come. Not one person is more special than the next. So, if I can find such a positive outlook. So can you.
